Movie Review: The Book of Life
I didn’t know what to expect when I took my three-year-old to The Book of Life. An animated picture featuring the voices of Channing Tatum, Ice Cube, Danny Trejo, and Zoe Saldana, among others, I was most impressed with the soundtrack, which includes covers of Radiohead’s “Creep,” Mumford & Sons “I Will Wait,” and Elvis’ “Can’t Help Falling In Love with You,” among many others.
The film is about Manolo, a young man who is torn between fulfilling the expectations of his family by becoming a bull-fighter, and following his dream of becoming a musician. He competes with his best friend and cocky war hero for the heart of Maria. Manolo ends up embarking on a journey that spans three worlds where he faces his greatest fears.
My three-year-old loved this movie, and I really enjoyed it too. It is really funny, the visuals are unique and beautiful, and the music is a lot of fun. It is a Halloween movie, but it’s not too scary for most kids. I highly recommend it.
