The original The Muppet Show was a bit before my time, but as a fan of The Muppets, I found the show and watched every episode a few years ago. Well, it is making a comeback as Disney released a new special recently. It was only one episode, but I hope they make more because it was a lot of fun.<\/p>\n
Executive Produced by Seth Rogan, and hosted by Sabrina Carpenter, they did an amazing job of capturing the spirit of the original series. Rogan is fresh of the rewards circuit, having won several awards as an actor and writer for the Apple TV series ‘The Studio’. While he only appears in The Muppet Show briefly, his writing style is felt throughout the show. I wasn’t very familiar with Sabrina Carpenter prior to this viewing, but I was impressed with her vocals, as well as her comedic delivery. She and Miss Piggy interacted throughout the show and had great chemistry. It felt very much like watching a classic episode of The Muppet Show.<\/p>\n
All the characters were here, but they smartly focused on the most recognizable Muppets throughout this special. If they do more episodes, I’m sure we’ll get to see a lot more of the other Muppets (Animal is my personal favorite). But for one episode, focusing mostly on Kermit and Miss Piggy makes sense, and was effective. They stuck to the original format, with the original theme song, and several guest stars throughout, including a very funny Maya Rudolph. It all felt very familiar and cozy. I hope they make more.<\/p>\n
