{"id":258,"date":"2011-11-09T16:50:22","date_gmt":"2011-11-09T16:50:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bagleyinsurance.com\/?p=258"},"modified":"2011-11-09T16:50:22","modified_gmt":"2011-11-09T16:50:22","slug":"movie-review-in-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bagleyinsurance.com\/?p=258","title":{"rendered":"Movie Review: In Time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>In Time<\/em> takes place in a distant future (don\u2019t recall if they ever gave a year) where everyone has been genetically engineer to stop aging at age 25.\u00a0 The catch is that once you turn 25, your \u2018clock\u2019 starts running and you have only one year left to live.\u00a0 It gets even more complicated because now, instead of money, time is the new currency, which can be passed from person-to-person by locking wrists.\u00a0 Those who have a lot of time are considered \u2018rich\u2019 and have a lot more time to live then the \u2018poor,\u2019 who are often living day-to-day.\u00a0 Some of the weather people have centuries of time, and the division of wealth in this future world is staggering.<\/p>\n<p>If this sounds stupid, it\u2019s because it is, kind-of.\u00a0 It actually could have worked really well if they had a better script, director, and lead actors.\u00a0 The star, Justin Timberlake, proves here that he has no business starring in an \u2018action movie.\u2019\u00a0 He is not a good actor, despite the fact that he was somehow able to perfectly portray an arrogant, egocentric pretty-boy in <em>The Social Network<\/em>.\u00a0 He\u2019s also hit some high marks in comedies like<em> Bad Teacher<\/em> and <em>SNL<\/em>, but he is probably best know for his work on <em>The Mickey Mouse Club<\/em> in the early nineties.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Timberlake should stick to the Disney roles, because he is out of his element here.\u00a0 His emotional breakdown (spoiler!) when his mother dies is laughable, almost like he\u2019s trying to be funny.\u00a0 (BTW, she died because that morning she gave Timberlake an extra 30 minutes of time so he could buy an \u201cextra big lunch\u201d?)\u00a0 Watching him take out bad guys and try to talk tough is cringe-inducing.\u00a0 And his romance with the equally laughable Amanda Seigfried (SP?\u00a0 Who cares) is just embarrassing.\u00a0 They always pick the worst times to kiss, like when they have 15 seconds to live and should be running to the nearest bank or credit union to fill their \u2018clocks\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>One thing that really bugs me about this movie is that they never explained how or why they started this whole way of life.\u00a0 Who in their right mind would agree to this?\u00a0 Why would they agree to it?\u00a0 How did it happen?\u00a0 When and why did it happen?\u00a0 In some movies, a ridiculous premise doesn\u2019t need to be explained because the movie is so good that it really doesn\u2019t matter.\u00a0 Here, an explanation is definitely warranted.<\/p>\n<p>Also, almost every tense situation in this movie could have been resolved if the character had access to a cell phone.\u00a0 It baffled me that in the year 3,000 (or whatever year it is) they don\u2019t have cell phones, particularly when they could die if they can\u2019t find a friend to loan them some \u2018time.\u2019\u00a0 The characters are constantly down do only seconds to live and didn\u2019t think to call a friend 30 minutes ago to get some help?\u00a0 Did the government\/evil scientists (or whoever is responsible for this bleak future existence) also outlaw cell phones in the future?\u00a0 Even the super wealthy villain is locked in his office while Timberlake escapes and isn\u2019t able to call security from his office phone.\u00a0 How is this possible?\u00a0 He has a million years to live but is too cheap to spring for a phone in his office?<\/p>\n<p>Eventually the movie turns into a <em>Bonnie &amp;
