Movie Review: 10 Cloverfield Lane

10 Cloverfield Lane is a sort-of meta-sequel to 2008’s Cloverfield, but it is completely different for the most part and works in its own right.  You don’t have to see Cloverfield to watch this movie, but it does help.

After getting in a car accident, Michelle (played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead) wakes up in an underground cell, held captive by Howard (played by John Goodman).  Howard, along with the other occupant on the shelter Emmett, claim that they can not go outside because the country was attacked and air has been contaminated.  Of course there is no way for Michelle to confirm this, as Howard will not let her go outside to check.

Howard is crazy but sometimes likeable, and Goodman plays him perfectly.  Most of the movie is confined to the small shelter they occupy, and there is enough of suspense and twists to keep you interested.  Not everyone in the shelter is what they seem, and as they learn more about each other things start to get a bit tense to say the least.  Not to mention the fact that the world outside may or may not have come to an end.

This is not my favorite genre, but for what it was I enjoyed it.
