Movie review: The Lorax

I’m a Dr. Seuss fan. I loved reading his books as a kid, and as an adult, I’m looking forward to reading them to my son. But I don’t think they have translated well to the big screen in recent years. ‘The Cat in the Hat,’ ‘Grinch’, and others aren’t my favorites. Most of the time, I feel like the movies don’t quite capture the Seuss magic. Another issue is that trying to convert a short children’s book into a 90 minute movie can be difficult.

‘The Lorax’ is pretty much the same as the other Seuss movies. If you liked ‘Horton Hears a Who,’ which was actually not bad, you’ll probably like this. I suspect that your kids will be entertained by it, but you’ll probably be a bit bored. Unlike other recent animated movies like ‘Toy Story’ and ‘The Incredibles,’ ‘The Lorax’ doesn’t provide many laughs for adults. It is a movie strictly for kids. If you have young children, I think this is definitely worth your time. Otherwise, I’d probably pass.
